Robert came to law as a second career committed to the idea that excellent skill, knowledge, and representation are not just a goal, but an absolute requirement.  As Managing Partner of KPM LAW’s Fairfax Office, Robert put together and manages an aggressive team of litigation professionals committed to aggressive, efficient and responsive promotion of client interests.

Robert focuses his practice on the defense of large loss and complex commercial and construction claims, contract disputes, professional and business liabilities, commercial transportation accidents, and premises liability, as well as insurance coverage analysis and litigation.  He has tried numerous cases in both state and federal courts and has successfully argued in the appellate courts of Virginia, Maryland and the Fourth Circuit.

After graduating from the University of Virginia, Robert received a full scholarship to study opera at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.  He sang for ten years on stages from the east coast to Chicago before returning to law school at the College of William and Mary, where he took second place in William Mary’s National Moot Court competition and was a member of the I’Anson-Hoffman Inns of Court.  Robert is happily married and also manages his boy-girl twins and a wonderful mixed-breed, rescue dog.

Bob joined KPM LAW in January 2005 and has since devoted his practice almost entirely to defending employers and their workers’ compensation carriers before the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission. He is a member of KPM LAW’s ten-attorney workers’ compensation practice group.

Over the course of his career with the firm, Bob has tried hundreds of matters before the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission throughout the Commonwealth and has appeared before the Court of Appeals of Virginia on numerous occasions.

In addition to his legal practice, Bob has lectured extensively on all aspects of the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act, both publicly and in-house for insurance companies and self-insured employers. He is also a longtime Dale Carnegie coach and recently coached his 20th “Skills for Success” class.

His commitment to service extends well beyond his legal practice. Bob has served on the Board of Directors of Christ Lutheran Church (2023–2025) and REBOS, a nonprofit organization supporting those affected by substance abuse (2020–2025). Since 2016, he has also served as President of the Board of Kids Soar, a Roanoke faith-based nonprofit dedicated to helping children and families break the cycle of poverty through literacy education.

Through reading instruction, mentorship, and ongoing support, Kids Soar helps children develop literacy skills that can shape their success in school and throughout their lives. Its mission is simple but consequential: to ensure that no child in the Roanoke Valley grows up facing the lifelong barriers created by illiteracy.
